Gum Arabic / Gum Acacia (E 414)

   
 
Gum Arabic, also known as gum acacia, chaar gund, char goond or meska, is a natural gum made of hardened sap taken from two species of the acacia tree; Acacia senegal and Acacia seyal. Gum Arabic is a complex mixture of polysaccharides and glycoprotein’s that is used primarily in the food industry as a stabilizer. It is edible and has E number E414.
 

Applications of GUM ARABIC / GUM ACACIA

 
Food :
Extensively used in confectionery industry, used as glaze for chewing gum, jujubes and gum drops.
 
       
Flavors Fixative :
Used in spray dried flavor and also to make good emulsion.
 
       
Pharmaceuticals :
It inherent emulsifying, stabilizing, demulcent and emollient characteristics led to number of application like emulsion, tablets and capsule etc.
 
 
Cosmetics :
Used as binding agent in compact cakes, adhesive in facial masks and stabilizes emulsions, protective and lotions. Most advantages it is nontoxic and it is free from dermatology and allergic reactions.
     
Adhesives :
It is used to make transparent adhesive and also used in starches based adhesive.
     
Paints :
It gives controllable thixotropic properties to paints.
     
Inks :
Used for its excellent protective colloid properties (specially gold number and government recording). used in various ink like water colour ink, quick drying, permanent marking ink, pigmented ink, typographic ink, Hectograph ink, gloss finish ink, electrical conductive ink and wood grain ink.
     
Textile : Used as sizing and finishing agents.
